Fall Harvest

Something about harvesting in the fall (as opposed to the sweltering summer!) is simply beyond beautiful.  I love the beautiful colors of the heirloom tomatoes, the promise of pies from the growing pumpkins. I love the giggles from the girls, tramping barefoot through the garden to pick a snack, and the way they ooh and ahh at each new harvest as we talk about what we'll do with the beautiful, fresh produce. (This particular bunch of tomatoes made a delicious "uncooked" spaghetti!)  Soon the garden will sleep for the winter, as already the number of plants begins to

dwindle, but for now they can freely play without Mama hollering, "Watch out!  There are seeds under there!!"  and picking kale is a favorite pastime.  ( We can hardly eat it fast enough to keep up with the supply.  Does anyone know if kale freezes?)   We are enjoying God's bounty!  Joel is enjoying having "domesticated" the city girl, and the girls are enjoying chasing jackrabbits away from their precious carrots.  What more could we ask for?
